Hi
my son is seven and we are pretty sure he is autistic, he was in the pathway when he was three but we thought his behaviour was improving and just put it down to age and regrettably took him off. He is in year 2 at primary school , the teachers have told be he is 3 years behind his peers in his learning, his levels are low in all areas, English, maths ect. The senco teacher has told me they don’t know if he can carry on in a mainstream school because he is so behind. They are in the process of applying for an EHPC, his also been assessed by an educational psychologist and occupational therapist at school. The teacher says he still doesn’t know where the toilet is and has to be shown by a teacher. At home my son does not sleep until early hours of the morning. I have to get him dressed, he can’t do buttons, has poor motor skills, I have to help him wipe when he goes a toilet. In the car if it stops at a traffic light he kicks my chair and finds it difficult to wait. In the shops he finds it difficult to wait in a queue which can cause a major melt down to the point I have to leave the shop. He can not use cutlery and is an extremely fussy eater , no sauce just plain pasta and toast. Sorry for the long post and my grammar (im tired) the school have told me to apply for DLA as we should get it, but I don’t see how when we do not yet have a diagnoses, it is all being done via the school but of course waiting times are long. Anyone have any advice? just feel like although life is hard and challenging people have it a lot worse and although it would help greatly I don’t know if I would feel right claiming it or whether we would even be entitled.
many thanks
