Melatonin for 3year old?

DNeice is nearly 4 and awaiting ASD diagnosis. DSIL is absolutely desperate for her to sleep! As an SN parent myself (DS, 19) I've suggested melatonin as we used it when DS was that age. We couldn't get it on prescription but were suggested a website by our paed where we ordered it with no problem for as long as we used it.

DSIL has ordered from the same website herself but the bottle now says not suitable for children under 12. DNeice doesn't have a paed yet (still waiting for referral) and obviously SIL doesn't want to give it if it's unsuitable.

Can anyone suggest what she can do. Things have obviously changed since DS was that age and I'm out of suggestion.

TIA

DSIL could request a referral to a sleep clinic. There will still be a wait, but it might not be as long as the waiting list for a paed.

Melatonin can be given to 3 year olds.

It's definitely fine for younger children. My DS has ASD and we were able to get a prescription just from my GP for liquid melatonin for him, as his sleep had become so bad. He was 3. I'd suggest maybe seeing if your SIL could get a private appt with a paediatrician to get a prescription that way, just as a one off while there's a wait for referrals etc?

On a positive note, things can get much better with this - my DS is 5 now and wakes up early, but his sleep really improved and we took him off melatonin entirely.
