Dyslexia screening.. what now?!

Dd year 4 has recently had a dyslexia screening which has come back as strong evidence for dyslexia, I know this isn’t an official diagnosis.

she already had recognised SEN with an EHCP so this hasn’t come as a surprise. She has issues with speech, learning, motor skills, sensory needs and a short attention span. I believe she could have adhd or perhaps autism and masking heavily. My eldest is diagnosed autistic.

anyway, back to my question with the dyslexia screening. can things be put in place with the screening rather than a full assessment? Can it be used in her EHC plan? The school have give me the paperwork but not really talked any more about it, they’ve listed interventions which should have been in place already to be honest but they haven’t been done and still aren’t being done.

her main concerns are with reading, spelling as well as her speech and language issues. She’s at least 3 years behind with reading and on very simple books compared to her peers.

EHCPs are based on needs, not diagnosis, so yes you don’t need a diagnosis (of dyslexia, ASD or ADHD).

Request an early review of the EHCP. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use to do this. When was DD’s last ed psych assessment? When you say the interventions aren’t being done, the provision DD requires must be in F and therefore must be provided and can be enforced.

Having said that, if you think DD has ADHD &/or ASD you should look at getting a referral for that.
