Hi weve been asked by our pead to do sleep diaries for Melatonin. But im not sure if its what we want. Sleep issues with both but in different ways. Both aged 3 (nearly4) both diagnosed ASD. DS1 goes to sleep fine about 7/7.30 and sleeps ok initially but then after a few hours will wake every hour all night screaming for milk. Tried leaving tried lying with tried everything he will go on forever! DS1 sleeps quite well once he gets to sleep but will bounce off the walls all night and it gets to nearly midnight then hes so tired anxious and upset in a morning when he has to get up? Would melatonin work for both of them? Or just for ds2 where the issue is going to sleep?

I think it is worth a try with both. For DS1, it may break the cycle or if DC go to sleep OK initially some people give it when DC wake a few hours later.

Agree, you’d be surprised how once they get to sleep with melatonin , it makes a difference to duration and quality of sleep also.

Generally the belief is melatonin helps a child to go sleep but not to fall sleep but generally it’s trial and error.

my sons autistic. Once he’s asleep, he’s asleep for the night however getting him to wind down and sleep was a major issue and could take hours. Melatonin has helped him greatly. It’s been a total life saver. I don’t have any experience with children waking up in the night, sorry.
