Needing music with dinner? 6yo

My 6yo boy is autistic with a delay of approx 2 years including speech so he chats like a 4yo

What I find at dinner time is certain foods he doesn't like he clamps his mouth closed and the only way he will eat is holding a phone with music on as he has his favourite songs

Is this terrible? I feel bad doing it but it's the only way. Not with all meals just a few hrs not overly keen on

I think this sounds like a very good compromise. He is managing his sensory needs well - the pleasant input from the music most likely helps him to mask the unpleasant input from the foods.

If it is helping him to keep a healthy diet, go for it. Perhaps one day he'll be able to eat these foods without music, but for now it is helping him.

@Thisismynewusernamedoyoulikeit yes I guess I agree with what u said I just did feel a bit guilty/bad mum for doing it. They don't have tablets (I also have a younger DS age 3) so only screen time is tv and u was worried music with dinner might not be so good either
