Hi everyone,

DD is starting nursery next week (time for twos) at a funded only nursery. I got granted time for twos a couple months ago. However my partner has moved in and he works, meaning next term when we reapply for time for twos funding we won’t be eligible.

DD is currently under the early integrated years service, SALT teams, she’s due an audiology assessment and the HV’s are looking at a referral to peads for an autism assessment once all reports are back.

we haven’t yet applied for dla but looking at our options for time for twos it seems the only way we will get it for next term is if DD has dla for support. However I don’t think we will be awarded dla in time for when we need to next apply for time for twos funding for April term.

my question is can the LA award time for twos on the basis that she does need extra support etc? Or do we have to be awarded dla first? I’m really worried about sending her this term just to not be able to go from April again. And this is if we even get granted dla because I know they can refuse.

You won’t get nursery funding for 2 year olds without meeting one of the eligibility criteria. DC can qualify for free hours based on their additional needs when they have an EHCP &/or they are in receipt of DLA.

In exceptional circumstances children’s services can fund nursery hours for DC who wouldn’t otherwise be eligible for 2 year old funding, but that is unlikely to happen in your case because, based on your posts, the circumstances you describe aren’t exceptional.

It is unlikely DLA or a EHCP will be in place before next term.

@KeepGoingThomas hi, thanks for your reply! I’ve managed to speak to dc’s nursery and have managed to sort my queries. Thanks again!
