ADHD and equasym

Hi.

My 9 year old son has been on equasym for a year now, works well for him but my worry is his weight. Unsure of an accurate weight but he does not gain, I worry he's getting taller with no weight to show for it. I know these meds can affect weight gain, appetite etc so my question is how can I get him to gain healthy weight? Protein items, shakes, yoghurts etc? Any other recommendations? He's due to get braces in a few months and I worry also his appetite will dip more if they cause discomfort.

TIA

Hello, there's an active ongoing thread about ADHD meds on this board, lots of people on there have dealt with this so do come over and join that thread.

In our case, at the moment we're doing med breaks on weekends and holidays - but that may not work for all children.

Then yes, whatever it takes to up the calorie intake. We aim for a massive breakfast (DH has started doing a cooked breakfast every day, DS can choose if he wants eggs, bacon, hash browns...). And I bake lots of cakes. I have to remember to offer snacks after school as he wouldn't think to ask for one. And no matter how bad behaviour at dinner time, we still offer pudding...
