Universal credit disabled child element backpay

Hi everyone my 4 year old son has severe autism, gdd, a chromosome deletion and possible adhd, hes just had his DLA renewed and they moved him from medium rate care to high rate care and lrm (from his 5th birthday) i have just updated this change on universal credit but wondered from peoples experience how long its taken to get the disabled child element back payed i could really use the money right now with christmas round the corner. Extra cost with heating and electric and a funeral to pay for im really struggling and would love to give my kids the christmas they deserve 😔

Unfortunately, it is how long is a piece of string. It probably won’t be before Christmas. Make sure you request the disabled child element (and carer element if you are eligible) is backdated on your journal.

You mention a funeral, have you checked whether you are eligible for a Funeral Expenses Payment?

I'm In the same situation. Reported mine around the same time as you ! I heard back yesterday (5th Jan) saying back pay had been approved by decision maker . Now I have to wait for the back pay to be calculated . Who knows how long that takes ! Have you had your backpay yet?

It can take a couple of months, though I’ve heard it takes longer. Be persistent and badger them frequently!! You are entitled to it promptly. Make sure you don’t let them forget you’re waiting!

Currently in a similar situation, does anyone have a time frame of it going to a DM to actually getting the backpay :)

I’m just wondering how long it took from universal credit verifying child disability and getting any sort of letter from a decision maker? They’ve confirmed on a note on my journal that they have verified my son is in receipt of child disability but nothing about back pay or adding it into my universal credit? He gets higher rate care and higher rate disability.

@Mammma91 About two weeks for me from that point but you have to keep at them!
