AAGGGGGGHHH only day one

can't belive it is only the first day of the hols and I am already going (or is that gone?!) ,ad!

I was texting my Mum this morning to tell her I cant cope and guess what?....it was only 8.30am!!!!

We are usually going out to take Ellie to pre school then, then Grace, then..... a few hours to myself!!
anyone else cracking up already?!!!

I really feel for you anniebear. I was only thinking about this at the weekend, we have all had the lurgie and the children are really ratty!
My 2 don't break up until tomorrow. I am hopeful that it won't be as bad for me! DH is off for a fortnight too so Iat least I will get a bit of a break!!!(or perhaps not-sometimes it's worse isn't it!) DH had to hold back some of his holidays to use over the xmas break-it was a real pain at the time, could have really used a few extra days to take the kiddies out in the summer!

So far it's ds2 who'd driving me insane, but then that's nothing unusual. The 'highlight' of the day was when I was sitting down for 5 minutes and a piece of chocolate was thrown in my direction. It was only when a nappy came flying after it that I realised it wasn't chocolate after all. Trying to convince him that mid-December is not the best of times to strip off is so far falling on deaf ears. He's spent half the day climbing up on to shelves and furniture. His balance is excellent but it doesn't stop the panic when I spot him standing 6ft off the ground.

Ds1 has been a little angel in comparison. We walked by the school so that he could see that it was closed and definitely the holidays. The only time I thought we were really heading for a meltdown was when he announced out of the blue that he would be going to the shop by himself. I have absolutely no idea where that one came from. I wouldn't let an NT 4yr-old out to the shop by themselves, never mind one with ASD. He eventually gave up on the idea but I shall be hiding my keys even more carefully from now on.

I shall sound really stupid now...

What do you mean by NT child? I have ben meaning to ask beofore but keep forgetting! I presume it meansd one without special needs but what exactly?

Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh!

Until yesterday afternoon I had two reasonably happy little boys. Then last night ds1 suddenly started screaming and crying. He said that his ears hurt and walked around holding bags of frozen veg against them. Then his temperature shot up. Meanwhile ds2 developed a horrible cough....

Ds1 finally went to sleep at 11pm and woke up every hour for the rest of the night. Ds2 ended up sleeping in our bed.

We got them both an appointment with the GP this morning even though ds1 said that he felt better. I was mortified when the GP examined ds1's ears and said that they looked very painful and sore and that he must have been suffering a fair bit. She was lovely about it though and didn't do the "Why didn't you bring him in days ago?" thing that the locums seem to do. I still felt guilty though. Ds1 just doesn't seem to feel much pain and even when he does he just doesn't think to let anyone know.

She thought ds2 might have the beginnings of a chest infection and gave us a prescription with the instruction to wait a day or two to see if he got better by himself. Half an hour later and ds2 was being sick everywhere.

I'm hoping they'll both feel better in time for Christmas. Neither of them are particularly tolerant of anything when they are tired and so the meltdowns have been flying from all directions. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

And it's only the 3rd day of the holidays..........

Oh Coppertop that's really bad luck. Hope both your boys are fighting fit by Friday.

CT - hope your boys feel better soon. Remember lots of ear infections are viral anyway and get better just as quickly without the antibiotics, so don't torture yourself. Our ds1 either doesn't seem to feel pain, or is just no good at letting us know about it.
This week anyway, I think we as GPs are probably handing out a few more prescriptions for antibiotics than usual, and reading your story from my end I wonder if some of what your GP said might have been an attempt to justify to herself what she was doing!

Thanks. I wonder if a lot of people are doing what we did and rushing their children to see the GP now because of the surgeries being shut for Christmas? If it had been an ordinary week I don't think I would have taken ds2 in quite so soon.

They're still looking washed-out but are at least smiling again. The house is looking tidier than it has been for months as ds2 hasn't had the energy to wreck the place. Maybe that's the silver lining for this particular cloud.

Yup - everyone's doing it! I've got 6 hours to go, then off for nearly 2 weeks, so I can't complain, and it's quite nice to see lots of straightforward things for a change!

We've all been ill the past few weeks with tummy bugs etc, me and ds currently have the cold. He woke Tue night coughing and came into my bed and then lay awake for 4 hours. He was fine but does this in the winter, is wide awake and of course I have to stay more or less awake too. The next night (last night) he wnet to bed 'early' ie 7.30pm and woke again and was awake 4 hours in the night again. And is he sitting looking tired and ill? No he wants to go out....!

Sorry didn't mean to pinch this thread to have a moan.
