Hello everyone just wanted to share and maybe give some hope to others in a similar situation

My 4 year old girl is non verbal has gdd and autism she has lots of other complex issues aswell when she was 15months old she said flower 🌻
And since then nothing
However everyday this week she's said something!
I was changing her bum n she just looks me square in the eye and said duggee Norrie happy Roly tag which are all the characters from hey duggee ! I Burst into tears and nearly died !
She said Debbie which is me and football ⚽ and 1234
Everyday a new word I really can't believe it and am so happy as I thought it would never happen
I wanted to share as I know how hopeless it feels I just hope and pray that this doesn't stop and becomes more meaningful so that we can finally talk I'm so 😁 and excited
All the best to everyone x

Bobobab · 26/11/2023 21:41

This is so lovely and special thank you for sharing 😍 Out of curiosity do you think anything you have done has helped recently or was it just her time? x

Lexie365 · 27/11/2023 00:31

Thank you jesus for this blessing🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰 so happy for you🥰 I pray my son will be the same🙏❤

kungfupidge · 27/11/2023 05:18

@Bobobab thankyou very much x
the only thing that is different is that when reading a book to her recently I pretended I couldn't say the word like ball I'd say bbb haa lll and break it down and she made the sound bbb KKK lll so just sounding out letters of the words she found this interesting and looked at me for a moment which is also rare as she doesn't make eye contact a lot
but apart from that no I'm dumbfounded !

She has never spoken a word only sounds such as arghhh ouuuu so I really can't believe it there has been nothing at all then this.
I used to stay up worried that I'd never hear the sound of her voice even if it never gets more meaningful that sound is one I'll treasure
She has had speech therapy but that's only twice so I know it's not that so there really is hope for non verbal children thanks for your reply all the best xx

So happy for you - lovely to read (from a mama who has a DD who now talks incessantly after not being fully conversational until nearly 5!).

kungfupidge · 28/11/2023 06:35

@Tearsofamermaid aww lol 😊Thankyou and I really can't wait for my daughter to do the same when did your lil one understand enough language to answer a question if you don't my asking, I've had animal names yesterday like meercat, tiger cow pig etc it's like something is connecting in her lil head it's magic ! Haha I'm amazed x all the best

Thanks for sharing this, it is lovely to read..from a mum who has a pre-verbal 3.5 year old who is also just making lots of sounds!

MyopicBunny · 28/11/2023 22:31

That's such lovely news. Well done to your dd ❤️

kungfupidge · 29/11/2023 06:56

@khamps thankyou 😊 my girl just turned 4 in September and apart from when she was15 months saying flower all she's ever done is sounds "arghhh uooo " then last week sounds like bbb aaa then full on words I'm so shocked!
There is nothing meaningful yet such as asking for something or communication and she only says something when she wants to but just hearing to that voice is like winning the lottery
I really hope you get to hear your little one soon and don't give up hope me and my family didn't think she would ever talk having tried everything Makaton, pecs and apps on are phone nothing worked it's like something just clicked in her head and a connection was made I hope now that understanding of language will develop eventually as it would help with potty training and eating better etc and also so I could explain that putting a bobble in her her is not the end of the world lol but I think that's going to take a long while yet but we're getting somewhere 🙂
Best wishes and don't lose hope xx all the best

😭 DH is looking at me like I'm a madwoman because I burst out crying reading this. ❤️ My DS is verbal, but there are moments when we really connect over his ability to communicate something like this in the moment. I can't imagine how magical a moment this was for you. It's so moving!

Congratulations OP! What a lovely post.x

kungfupidge · 01/12/2023 06:18

@beautifulbrothers 😊 awww thankyou so much sweet that's lovely of you to say bless you
it really was the most amazing thing to happen especially as you say it was the eye contact aswell that moment of connection like I know who u are I can see you and I'm listening 😭
I'm still not believing it now lol I keep saying to everyone my girl can talk, can she talk, did that happen haha
It's still slow like yesterday she only said strawberry 🍓 but even one word is amazing for us as a family x and every little word or bit of eye contact is just this overwhelming lump in my throat I can't explain it very well I have to try not to freak out as I don't want to scare her by screaming lol but that's what I feel like doing jumping and screaming and crying and being a snotty mascara running mess ! 😁🙂😘
Thankyou and all the best to you and your family xx

What wonderful news and what a lovely thread Smile

I remember the joy when my delayed DS finally started talking! Enjoy hearing your little one gab away!

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 14/12/2023 22:35

I can understand your happiness too OP as DD was non-verbal till 3. She still has some issues with speech now but speaks clearly and is understood, just has problems expressing how she feels.

I'm so happy for you Flowers

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto aww thankyou very much for your lovely comment I'm very happy for your little one too, and all the families in the same situation it's such a hard thing that you take for granted isn't it my eldest is neurotypical and talked straight away he's 15 now then my second son who also has asd talked but spoke jargon till 2-3 then perfect speech however my dd her autism is much more complex and she has a lot of difficulty with eating drinking toileting sensory things too like hair brushing is a night mare luckily she has curly hair so it looks cute without bobbles n headbands ☺️ but with the start of her talking im praying that understanding of language will take hold so I can explain that we are going to the shop or I'm going to brush your hair and this will make it easier for her id love to see through her eyes so I could help her more xx thanks again and all the best x

She sounds a bit like DD, even the curly hair. I never was able to go pretty Sykes with it but now she looks after her own hair she spends ages straightening or curling it Wink
