Went to a party today with all the girls from DDs and it's clear that DD has no friends, she approached a couple of the girls but everyone moved away from her and she was left alone not knowing what to do. I am heartbroken. Does anyone have any suggestions on how she can make friends? I have offered a few play dates but they have always been cancelled beforehand.

Aw that sounds hard to watch. How did DD feel? Does she have an SEN diagnosis/assessment pathway? (This might change any actions).

I'm so sorry my love 💐

Where are you based? Maybe we can look for some charities that have sen kids club? X

Have you tried building friendships or at least interaction outside of school peers? Extra curricular clubs are good for this. If mainstream clubs won’t work, there are some SEN clubs e.g. if DD likes football, look at ability counts sessions.

Is DD receiving any support e.g. SALT and OT? Does her school offer any support, a nurture group, Lego therapy or similar?

My DS is 6. He does have friends, but struggles with the dynamics so can be quite dominant, sets playing rules, is easily upset, etc. His best friend since nursery was moved into a different class this year to give her a bit of space (we think).

We take him to the local theatre group on a Saturday morning and he's met some other children whose parents were also trying to encourage DC to meet children outside of school. He's made a very good friend who also struggles with making friends in his (different) school. It's so lovely when they see each other as they're the same age but also both younger socially and emotionally.

Definitely recommend extra-curricular activities to broaden the pool.
