Sugar addiction

My 9yo ASD is obsessed with sugar and sweets. I've tried not buying it, hiding it etc. If it's in the house, he sneaks down and eats it secretly. If there are no chocolates or sweets, he comes down and eats sugar from the sugar pot, or the golden syrup and maple syrup I keep for baking. He pesters me constantly about sweets. I am exhausted.

I've just given in and bought him a whole load of sweets because I don't want him eating in secret. Ive asked him not to eat it first thing before breakfast. Im hoping he will start to regulate himself when he realises ita not off limits.

But it's worsening his mood, temperament, attention, etc. Which are already pretty poor.

I'm just at a loss as to how to handle it.

Do I ban the sweets? Keep the sweets? What else can I do? I'm so worried. Please help.

Thank you. I really hope someone will come along with a similar experience and how they handled it.
