DS is 6 and is HFA, has very recently been issued an EHCP and we’re waiting for a specialist school place (in mainstream primary at moment).
He’s had LOTS of fixed-term exclusions for aggressive behaviour and damaging school property. I don’t condone any of this behaviour and wholly understand how challenging school find it.
BUT I suppose I just want to vent about fixed term exclusions. For him, they don’t serve as a punishment. And to be honest as a family we are often left reeling from them for days as a result of the meltdowns that they cause at home. Let alone missed school work for our child and missing our paid work.
Is essentially telling a ND young child “you are not welcome here for x number of days” the best way to help them? Especially as school haven’t given the support to him that he requires.
