problem pregnancy...maybe?

hiya

well i had another scan yesterday...they have changed my due date to a week later, which makes the baby jus on the growth scale (3rd centile), but they are saying it will be on the small side.

the baby also has fluid in and around its kidneys, they are not sure if it is blood or urine, only time will tell...they are saying its hydronephrosis

the baby also has mild lft talipes...

and also dolicocephaly due to breech position...( basically a long head)

hmmm

im 21 weeks, next appointmnet in 3 weeks time...anyoen else had any of these problems.

so sorry I can't help Ummm, no knowledge of these issues. If you have access to the internet, you could put the words in on google search to find out more, but beware as often that gives you just the worst case scenario! If you enter in the google box "20 week scan, hydronephrosis and dolicocephaly" you might find a mum who had the same scan results, it's an amazing tool Google. My friend's child has a club foot, which I think is talipes, and he runs and walks around fine, that bit I do know. What a worrying time for you, but all I can tell you in case it helps is that I love my autistic son, who also has a hole in his heart, more than I thought it possible to love anyone. In a way I think a mum loves her wounded cub with a fiercer, more protective love than she would if he/she had no issues. Big hug to you!

I know people who have had the kidney problems and talipes on their own, but not together.

I know a lady who had 2 pgs where there was too much fluid in the kidneys - with the first baby, kidney problems did persist after birth, so her baby had to have 1 operation, and antibiotics to prevent UTI, but after the op, the baby did very well, just had to have yearly scans. She was induced at 37 weeks because of the level of fluid in the baby's kidneys. With the second baby, the measurements were borderline, and when the baby's kidneys were checked over after birth, the problem had gone away.

A good friend of mine has a DD who had severe talipes on both feet, as part of an orthopaedic condition affecting her legs. Her DD had 3 or 4 ops on her feet/ankle in first few years of life, and casts on both feet (ponsetti method to help manipulate them in correct place). Despite all these problems, her DD was walking by 18 months, so although she still needs splints at night and regular check ups, her DD is doing pretty well, and her talipes sounds to be far more severe than what they have found with your baby.

cannot comment on the issues picked up on the scan, but one thing I will say is that at 21 weeks they cannot possibly tell you whether your baby will be small at term.

A friend of mine had to have a full pediatric team on hand when she gave birth because a scan the week previous (36 weeks) had indicated her baby was far too small for dates. They had prepared her for the fact baby would be going straight into scbu because they were expecting her to be around the 4.5 lb mark. She weighed in at 7 lb 8 oz!

I had hydronephrosis (well DS1 did) during my first pregnancy, had to have loads of scans and was induced ten days early, leading to a horrible labour, fetal distress and an emergency c- section under GA!. DS1 had a scan on his kidneys at one day old and the fluid had disappeared, I was then told "oh yes, it usually goes away by itself". Why do consultants like to terrify us FGS, if it had not been my first PG i would have refused to be induced. Try not to stress, its not good for the baby and it will probably all turn out fine, if you do find there are mild problems you will be amazed at what you can cope with.
