7YO how long between nappy changes?

7YO DS has autism and adhd. Doubly incontinent in a mainstream school. Has a full ehcp and his usual 1-1 is brilliant. She isn't the healthiest of people and is 3 days off this year so far. She's likely to be off all week. They haven't been doing his personal care when she's off.

This means he is changed at 8am and then when we get home between 3.30 and 4.

I'm obviously upset as he stank, there was clearly no plan in place for if he had soiled and I'm not sure anyone would noticed. I'm almost certain from how strongly he smelt that he had leaked.

Is it ever okay to leave a child the whole day without being changed?

This is absolutely not OK. Definitely raise this with the school. Is the 1:1 detailed, specified and quantified in F of the EHCP? Is the personal care included? Does DS also have an intimate care plan?

He has an intimate care plan and his toileting support is clearly in his F. His section F is watertight, especially around his personal care.

I think I'm mostly upset that I do know things happen and the shit hits the fan but they should have called rather than leaving him. I'd have rather been grumpy about a phonecall due to poor planning than him being left. I could have changed him and then politely raised we need a more robust plan going forward.

If F is watertight they need reminding of this. Although, even if it wasn’t it still wouldn’t be acceptable. Staff are ill, but it isn’t acceptable to neglect a pupil’s personal care all day.

Just because their personal care person is off doesn't mean they don't do personal care. I work in an sen school and we always have someone on nappies. Speak to the head.
