Private Autism Assessment

My child was referred for an autism diagnosis to the NHS around 4 years ago but unfortunately is still in the process. The NHS can’t give me a likely timeline for a diagnosis but we’re now in need of a diagnosis for secondary school application purposes. I have spoken to the consultant’s secretary who suggested that we go private and use someone who will follow the same criteria as the NHS would had they carried out the assessment.

I’m happy to do this given the urgency but I don’t have much knowledge around this area so am really struggling to work out who to use. Is anyone kindly able to point me in the right direction or to recommend someone? We’re in London but can travel somewhere close to London.

I am sorry to hear you have waited so long. We went privately with a consultant who mainly works NHS at GOSH, Dr Elaine Clark. We think she is excellent and would recommend her without hesitation. I can pm you details if helpful.

If you could that would be brilliant, thank you!

Hey, I came across this thread looking for answers. I have been considering private assessments for my son as the NHS waiting list is so lengthy. My Local Authority say they will only accept a diagnosis from a “reputable source”. I was wondering if you would mind me asking about the cost of going private. I apologise in advance for the question, I just really have no idea where to begin with everything.

I paid just over £2,000 last year for my son's. This was in the north east.
