Taken step back after back to school? Asd

Ds aged 5 asd diagnosis. Started back in September year 1. Happy to be back but seems to have taken a step back. Over the summer his speech improved massively and he was much more aware of his surrounding and seems to be doing well. We've noticed tho that he's now stopped talking to us morning and evening after school and he's constantly zoned out when back. Mainstream school have been using ear defenders for him and doing some of his work aware from class in quiet area and we're hoping its just a blip after returning. Anyone else had similar? He's year 1. I did post in the thread about returning and saying how happy he was to be back but the last couple of days both me and dh are started to get more concerned? Thanks

Give it a while longer, because he’s probably just tired and adjusting to the change in routine.

It could be from the effort of ‘coping’ and masking during the day. What other support is the school providing? Does DS have an EHCP?

No ehcp but has 1 to 1 in school and separate area to complete work away from distractions. He's just so zoned out at home. He has very limited speech anyway and understanding around him but over summer his speech improved massively we were so excited for him to return to school and build on it but obviously not yet happened. Yes could give it more time. Did consider contacting senco for a chat or whether it's too early days to do so

You should request an EHCNA. IPSEA has a model letter you can use.
