My son who is in secondary school has his annual review due shortly and the date the school have given me is one that i will be away for and unable to attend. I wonder if anyone knows if legally i can request another date as i really wish to go . Have tried to find out from my local education department and they didnt know . Havnt contacted school as i need this information before i tackle the subject with them (the head teacher is very unparent friendly and i know already that she will make things very difficult for me a as parent) so i need to go in armed with as much information when i ask for a change of date.Thanks.

I don't know, sorry - have you tried ipsea website?

The info in my annaul review guide says that the school must invite the parents to attend. It doesn't say whether they are legally obliged to change a planned date if the parent is unable to attend that day but I would have thought that if you want to attend they would be expected to arrange a date when you could come. I'm surprised that the LEA didn't know Meerkat is good for statement info so hopefully she'll see this thread and will be able to help. IPSEA will be able to tell you - it can take a while to get through on the phone though.

Thanks for the replies, have had a long conversation with IPSEA and legally they have to ask you for your comments and this can be written down in writing , but you dont have to attend the meeting. They have to take note of all that you say and they are accountable if when the meeting notices are sent to you and your comments not dealt with in the way you would have liked you can then talk to a review spokeperson at the authority's.(very complicated). I have spoken to the school and they will get back to me ,with a view to maybe changing the date.
