Private ADHD diagnosis and shared care

Hello,

we are going private with our 8yo as we just can’t wait any longer on the NHS waiting list. However our GP has advised us they will not take on shared care for a private diagnosis. Has anyone else had this issue? We can’t afford to carry on with the meds forever as it’s so expensive. Also, any recommendations for a reputable company for a child adhd assessment. Preferably in person.

Thank you!!

You will just need to change GPs I'm afraid to another one locally. Shared care should not be a big deal x

Our GP was happy to do shared care after a diagnosis. I agree it should not be a big deal. He prefers working with our private practice as it’s more thorough than the local paeds. We switched back to them for that reason.

We used Clinical Partners, based in London but offering virtual appointments.

We used spire in person, then transferred to psychiatry UK remotely for
treatment. Amazing service from the latter. Remote. We also changed GPs and the letter written by the consultant to second GP did the job.

So did you have the assessment and diagnosis through Spire Clinic, and then Psychiatry UK accepted the diagnosis from them and agreed to Titration and prescribe meds?

We are currently under assessment from a different private clinic for our 11 year old. We started the process before he started secondary school, and he was always ‘fine’ at primary school. However since starting secondary school he’s really struggling, and as a result is in trouble constantly (which is a whole other argument but I won’t get into that). I really do think he could do with being medicated for school. However the private clinic we have used don’t prescribe (something which I wasn’t bothered about when I picked it as didn’t think we would need them).

I was going to go to the GP once we have the diagnosis to see if there was anyway we could be referred on the NHS for titration- but imagine the wait is ages!
