Blue Badge Application for ASD

Just looking for anyone who has recent experience of applying for a Blue Badge for a child with ASD. My DS is 4 and gets MRC DLA but no mobility element due to age and not meeting the criteria for HRM although I'm planning to apply for LRM when he turns 5.
I understand the rules for Blue Badge applications for hidden disablilities changed in 2019, has anyone recently been given a Blue Badge for a young child with ASD?
Car journeys are increasingly becoming an issue for us as my DS is getting bigger and stronger. Tranisitions between coming home and leaving wherever we are are a real trigger for his meltdowns, getting him into and out of the car can be very difficult when he's anxious and upset and he regularly refuses to walk so we use a large pushchair the majority of the time. Recently we've had to abandon journeys to medical appointments because he gets so upset and I can't find anywhere suitable to park to get him out of the car when he's in that state. His understanding is very limited, no awareness of danger and when in a meltdown can run off or fight getting into or out of the car or pushchair.

Do apply.

DS3 is older than your DS but he has ASD and a blue badge. For us, it was a letter from a specialist nurse that provided us with the evidence it was necessary.

Yes do apply. Our DD is an adult who has autism and severe learning disability. Up until fairly recently she wouldn’t have been entitled to a blue badge because she is on the lower rate of the mobility component of DLA. However now the system has changed and her extreme anxiety around transitions and low awareness of danger etc were enough to get us a blue badge without any problems. The online application is a pain though.

I can echo what PP have said. 5yo non-verbal ASD. No sense of danger and can have meltdowns. Blue badge really helpful.

Thanks for these responses. I've now applied, not sure how long the wait will be. @SachiLars did you have to wait long for a response?

I also sent off his DLA award letter, diagnosis letter and the SALT contribution for his EHCP (EHCP is still in progress) as it's all the evidence I have, although none of it really goes into much detail about mobility. Not sure it's all enough.

I’m not sure how long, about 6 weeks, maybe less. I think it depends on your county.
