What is your ASD child like now?

Hi - my 6 year old son is verbal but very behind still. He doesn’t play with other children, makes noise and is repetitive in terms of always asking for the same things. He does attend mainstream with full time 1:1. He can read and write. I am constantly worried about him and I know that no one can predict how things will be for him but I constantly feel like I’m waiting for the day he will improve a bit but each time he is a year older he still has the same issues. He will be 7 this year. My question is has anyone had children in this situation and if so what are they like now they are older?

I have no comments but I have often wondered the same. Though we cannot predict the future we can plan for it.

The thing is that you will get such a range of experiences that I’m not sure it will be useful to you.

Does he get any SALT or OT input or any other interventions to help?

Age and maturity often bring about positive changes but then other issues can surface too so it’s swings and roundabouts.

I also think that the people whose children have the fewest issues, even if they started with them, are not hanging around the SN board because they don’t necessarily need the advice or support. So perhaps it’s a biased pool of posters. I may be wrong about that though.
