Autistic DD asking to die

DD1, aged 10, has just burst into tears as we were sitting waiting for her Riding for the Disabled lesson. She says she wants to die because she is autistic.

I don't know what to do. Do I phone the GP? The school? The local charity who support her? All of them?

Has anyone experienced this with such a young child? I thought this might be something we could face when she was a teenager but not this early.

Yes, speak to the school, charity and GP. Get a CAMHS referral, in some areas you can self refer, although the waits are long. If you feel you can’t keep DD safe in the meantime take her to A&E.

Does DD have an EHCP? If so, does it include therapies? Sounds like you need to request an early review. If DD doesn’t have an EHCP you can request an EHCNA.

I'm in Scotland so no EHCP.

She was discharged from CAMHS.

No imminent danger so not A&E.

I would request a re-referral to CAMHS.

Does DD have a CSP? Have you spoken to Enquire?

No CSP. Just CYPP yearly planning.

I will call the Enquire helpline.
