melatonin advice

I was so excited to finally get melatonin prescribed by the doctors and try it with DD tonight. I read the leaflet and the brand we've given says it must not be used for children!!
Can anyone advise which brands/type are okay to use for children. I will try to go to the pharmacy tomorrow to sort out if they can - or I guess it's back to the GP on Monday😭
Thanks in advance.

It is used off licence for children which is why it has to be prescribed by a paediatrician. What type & dosage do you have? Is it a tablet or a liquid?

If you are concerned speak to a pharmacist. It is highly likely to be safe to use. Medications are often prescribed even when the leaflet has warnings against use, it is to do with evidence and being licensed/unlicensed for certain populations/uses, it doesn’t necessarily mean the medication is unsafe.

Thanks very much for the advice. I didn't know about doctors being able to prescribe off licence. They are tablets for 2mg.
DD has taken them tonight and saying she feels sleepy - first time ever! So hopefully it will work tonight.

It is actually common for medication to be prescribed unlicensed.

Posted too soon. I am glad the melatonin appears to be working. Fingers crossed it lasts.

Good luck.

How's it going so far @inearlygotsomesleep? My Teen DD has started Melatonin recently and she's much more relaxed.

On day 2 and it seems to be helping. DD actually said she felt tired at bedtime (unheard of before!) l just hope it continues. @SiouxsieSiouxStiletto it's great to hear it's helping you DD. It's so tough when everyone isn't getting enough sleep.
