Dislocated Hips

Hi, My daughter who is 6 months old has just been put into a hip spica..can anyone suggest a suitable car seat?/if so where i may be able to get one from.At the moment we have the Maxi Cosi and she doesn't fit into it because of the position of her legs. provide some tips...feel totally lost at the moment.Help please

have you had a look at the Steps website, that has useful info on, and I think has a forum too

hiya, my dd was in a hip spica at the age of 4 months -10 months and we used a britax(sorry can't rememeber full title but the sides did not come high up and it was ideal as she kind of perched on it and we didn't even need the belt adapting)
will google britax and have a look if i can see anything similar..
btw where are you being treated?

just had a quick look, the one we had id not there(but this is 6 years ago)but try the evolva 1-2-3 ultra?

www.incarsafetycentre.co.uk have a section about hip spicas & suitable car seats, they
were helpful when I phoned for advice.
We used a Britax Elite when dd had a hip brace as the seat was flatter & accommodated her well.
Sorry you are feeling lost - it's very daunting at first. Dd coped better than I did! Good luck.

thanks chattee and all...will have a search to see what we can find..she is being treated at Birmingham Childrens Hospital..had a bit of a nightmare today, her nappy leaked so her cast got wet around the back so we had to take her in and they covered the lining..hate to think what it's going to be like a few weeks on..only been 4 days yet!

tabby76, I have been childminding a baby in a hip spica and then a brace for the last 9 months. She is now cast and brace free.

I have the Britax Elite as sold by Milton Keynes In Car safety centre, they fitted it for me.

My DH has a flat in Birmingham so cpuld always get it to there, ( King Edwards Wharf, or he works in Aston)

My daughter Grace is currently in a hip spica. Shes is 17 months old and has been in it since 7th Jan 08.

We had the same problem with our car seat but, our health visitor managed to get a britax elite we could borrow until April when she finally will be cast free.

If you ever feel like you want a chat about anything i'm always here.

I think STEPS loan out equipment suitable for children in a spica - or they used to, anyway
