Hello!
My DS is 23 months old, still not pointing, waves only when he wants to . He babbles a lot, but doesn’t has any intentional words. . I don’t know if it might be autism. He is really friendly and has great eye contact and responds to his name (7 out of 10 times). He brings toys sometimes. Understands when I say NO but doesn’t understand any other commands. He was evaluated and they said he is too young to give me a diagnosis, and for now is just a speech delay.. Has any of you been on this situation and then turns out fine? Or just a speech delay? I would really appreciate your feed back. Thanks!

Youve been describing my son at the same age

my son almost didnt react to his name till 2.5
started talking at 3

understanding was there but not always cause he was abit lazy (and is lazy still:)to do tasks and stuff
started talking/communicating with using only half of the word or just first letter of the word and some macaton signs
ive been worry sick even went to depressive state of mind when start searching for answers in internet (all those stupid red flags, milestones and other bs)

skip to nowadays
hes english way better then mine
He is 4 year old going to school next year
thats all

yes exactly at 3rd bday he has his first words
by now he 4 and 2 month he using sentences of multiple words with absolutely functional language, more then functional actually coz i often telling him to shoosh ,which i would never think i will do year ago
He rarely pointing, he just saying what he want or like "look up papa" and he will sort of nod hes head towards the object, which he learn i guess from me
so yeah when he was non verbal he didnt point and now he using different gesture or speach to attract my attention to something

Hi OP,

I hope you don't mind me asking (not sure if you will see this) but how is your little one now?
He sounds very like my 22 month old at the moment and I am so worried. Can't understand commands and virtually no words etc, but no sensory/repetitive issues.

When you say he doesn't understand commands, if you're playing with him or something that he enjoys, does he respond to requests then like "Put the ball in here" "Where is it?" "Again" etc. (It would be expected that he would usually follow these instructions).

If you mean he doesn't comply with instructions like put that down/use your spoon/this way/leave that alone etc - then he's just being a toddler. That's totally age appropriate.

You've been diagnosed with speech delay - is he getting speech therapy?

@BertieBotts I think he understands no, all done etc but if I was to say go get your shoes or give me the ball he would probably just look at me blankly. His nursery also said the other kids can put their plates away when told to but he can't.
The HV only put in the speech therapy referral at the start of this week so I think it'll be a while.
