Cutting nails of son

My DS is 8 and has been diagnosed with Autism. I have always cut his nails while he is sleeping. Now he moves a lot and doesn't let me cut his nails whilst he is sleeping. Whilst he is awake, it is impossible to cut his nails as he doesn't sit still and runs away. Any tips or advice please.

This is really hard, and I totally feel your pain. I start a two week campaign when I need to cut DS2's nails. I go on and on at him until he gives in to shut me up. I also offer lots of rewards and incentives for having them done. Chocolate and YouTube sometimes help. As his nails can easily get to the stage of being dangerous to him or others I just make sure I am more stubborn than he is.

Don’t put it off all day until he’s too tired. Recruit someone to help distract him if you’ve got someone available.

Thanks for replies. DH had to hold him tight whilst I quickly cut his nails. DS got a treat afterwards. I think this is the way forward until DS gets used to cutting his nails.

oh god, this is a glimpse into my future. I currently cut my 4yos nails while he's sleeping (also give him haircuts this way!)

i'm going to have to bite the bullet someday and get him to properly engage with this process
