ADOS-2 assessment

Hi

DD (7) has been referred for an ADOS-2 assessment and an autism quotient assessment. Just wondered if anybody else has done the ADOS-2 assessment and can let me know what to expect. She masks a LOT at school so I'm concerned she will mask throughout the assessment and not get an accurate diagnosis. Her traits can be quite subtle when she's well rested and calm but as soon as she gets tired or anxious they become almost unbearable and we want to try and make life as easy as possible for her going forward. I think the diagnosis will help get her assistance at school to minimise her anxiety. Any help or advice would be really appreciated!

It will be better for the HCPs to see DD’s true reactions and responses, so don’t prepare her. They should understand masking and be able to see if for what it is.

The ADOS includes various tasks such as telling a story from a picture, making a story from objects, pretending to e.g. brush your teeth, completing a puzzle and some questions.

As an aside, you don’t need a diagnosis for support in school, it is based on needs.

I agree with the previous poster, the diagnosis gives you a name for traits but it doesn't automatically offer support, you may be offered a generic parent training in a group... if
