My dd10 has asd and life is very hard, I spend my life worrying myself silly about her future. Does anyone have any positive stories about their children and futures with Asd? She struggles the most with social communication and meltdowns.
Give me some hope for the future please !!

My DD is younger than yours, but being autistic myself, while I won't pretend everything is perfect I have a husband and a good job. I found that while some things helped with the meltdowns, mostly it was just a case of handling it better as I got older. Both in terms at knowing what to avoid and in dealing with them ( now rather than lashing out I know to take myself off somewhere quiet).

I am a few years behind you as my DD is 7 - no diagnosis yet but I suspect ADHD, reactive attachment disorder and possible PDA/ODD. All I can say is that when I am feeling like you are, despite DD’s present difficulties I try and focus on the progress that she has made since she was tiny. There was a time when her behaviour was completely out of control and she wasn’t conversational until she was nearly five due to a severe speech delay. As she (and your DD) get older we can hope that they will develop more social skills and learn to regulate their emotions and behaviour.

Does your DD go to mainstream or special school? Does she have an EHCP? What support if any do you have as a family in terms of therapies, respite etc?
