Not having to renew DS's DLA?

DS got granted DLa in 2016 aged 5 after his asd diagnosis, I know you don't need diagnoses to apply but I decided to wait. He gets middle rate care and low rate mobility.

I don't know much about renewals erc but I've recently seen a lot about renewals

I have dug out paperwork and it says do gets DLA until 2028

is it normal to be granted DLA for 12 years without the need to renew?

I only ask because I feel he might meet the criteria for high rate care now but not sure how to go about it.

Sometimes longer awards are given. If you feel DS now potentially meets the criteria for HRC you can ask for a change of circumstances, but be aware awards can go down as well as up.

That's a very long time without review. It takes him upto age 16 when he'd need to transfer to PIP. However, you can notify them of changes if you feel he should be in HRC but beware they may shorten the length of the award and you have to apply more often.
