Dyslexia Assement

Hi

Hoping this is the right board to put this into, but I was wondering of anyone would be able to say what happens in the assessment

My 8yr DS is having one on Friday and all we know at the moment is that it will take somewhere between 2 1/2 - 3hrs to do.

He has ADHD so the assessment will be with an Educational Phycologist

Thanks in advanced

The EP will likely speak to you, DS and the school. They will ask DS to do certain tasks/exercises and they may observe him in class.

Sorry, I should have said in my OP, this isn't being done at the school. This is being done via an external company/charity as we need to get an official one done which schools don't do

Everything bar speaking to the school and observing DS applies then. Schools can arrange official EP assessments to diagnose dyslexia, although many tell parents they can’t.

It will be things like reading accuracy, speed reading, pattern matching, writing accuracy (eg copying accuracy/speed), maybe some maze following, joining dots, working memory (eg recalling sequences), phonological awareness etc.

DD had a private assessment earlier this year, very useful. The EP took breaks whenever needed, but it was very tiring.

Report covered: underlying ability, working memory, phonological awareness, processing speed, attainment in reading & writing & spelling, words per minuted for out lod reading, silenet reading, and writing.

Once we got her scores we were amazed DD had even half way coped at school some were so low.

You may have to be flexible with time. My son's dyslexia assessment had a similar estimate to yours but took over 5 hours in the end, as the tests can be exhausting when you have slow processing.

Hi - my son has had a recent dyslexia assessment and the outcome was that he has 'dyslexic tendencies.' Struggling to establish if this is a diagnosis of dyslexia . His difficulties with writing are quite significant. Has anyone had a similar experience ?
