Hi My son has severe social anxiety, separation anxiety, asd, selective mutism. He has hardly left the house for the last year and cannot engage or be around other people, he gets distressed with someone even being in the house. This means he cannot engage with therapies including speech and language which he desperately needs.
Camhs have now asked us to think about trying a very small dose of anxiety medication, has anyone else had experience with a child this young being on medication?? I’m in two minds but we’ve tried everything and he cannot live like this(Neither can we)

DS1 started antidepressants at 6. We were initially reluctant, but there wasn’t another option, we were in crisis on the verge of an inpatient CAMHS admission. He then also started risperidone. They haven’t been a miracle cure, but have helped.
