Can anyone please help me ? DS has been having significant behavioural problems since starting school in sept (and has always been a lively, busy boy). As part of our efforts to try and help him we took him to an allergy specialist. Ds was found to be sensitive to refined sugar, artificial colouring and certain preservatives. I understand that quite a few children with adhd also have to avoid these things and and I was hoping that someone maight be able to give me some advice. I have bought several chewy type bars from health food shops and also one bar of diabetic choc (very expensive!). Does anyone have any recipes for cakes or biscuits that avoid these things? Also are there any websites that sell sweet like treats that are sugar free? Would like to be able to make him some treats - especially with xmas coming.

I've got a marvellous recipe for banana cake that you can make without refined sugar...
Will post it on here later! The following link (sorry, can't do links so it's a cut and paste job) is a brill gluten and dairy free that also has lots of sugar and preservative free stuff. Good luck!

Here is the marvellous banana cake recipe. It's really delicious. You could leave the vanilla extract out if you think DS may be sensitive. It's the one 'flavouring' DD doesn't seem to react to, interestingly.
Sorry for the delay...
4 oz unrefined sugar
8 oz self-raising flour (I use gluten free)
4oz margarine (I use dairy free!) softened
2 eggs
1/2 tsp bicarb of soda
1 tbsp milk (I use soya)
2-3 ripe bananas (mashed)
a few drops of vanilla extract

*Preheat oven to 180C
*Cream together the margarine and the sugar
*Add the eggs, on at a time, beating well after each
*In a separate bowl mix together the milk and bicarbonate of soda
*Add the bananas to the milk mixture
*Combine the banana and margarine mixtures
*Fold in the flour
*Spoon mixture into a loaf tin with greaseproof paper
*Bake for 45-50 mins
*Allow to cool
