Family Fund Grant Amount

I applied to the Family Fund for 2 disabled DC (High rate DLA) for a Center Parcs short break. I'm a full time carer and they have very complex lifelong needs.

The assessor was lovely and said that we would be awarded more than enough to cover a holiday and travelling to it. She even said she would send vouchers for clothes on top.

The award letter has arrived. Its £450 in total so £225 per child. I've looked on CP website and it doesnt come close to covering the shortest break available in the cheapest accommodation in any location nevermind the petrol to get there . I'm so very grateful for the award but I can't use it as I simply can't raise the shortfall of hundreds of pounds. Has this happened to anyone else?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible to swap for a caravan maybe that it would stretch to?

That is typical for a first award. If you call Family Fund soon they should be able to change what your grant is for but don’t put it off because I think there is a time limit for swapping.

Oh, and the grant is for the family rather than per child.

Hi @Willyoujustbequiet I have recently applied, could you tell me what happened after you applied? did you get a phone call to ask about your children’s needs, did they ring out the blue or was you given a date and time?
could I also ask how long it took you please, I’m on 8 weeks from today x
