My son is 5 years old and currently on the waiting list for a nuerodevelopmental assessment I’ve been told it can take years in the area I’m in. He has seen a speech therapist and it was her that referred him as possible traits of autism because of his struggles with socialising normally.
however I feel he shows more traits towards adhd than autism.
he talks a lot and often repeats the same things over.
hyperfocused on things he likes was numbers now it’s sonic.
easily distracted in nursery and needs one to one verbal instruction for him to listen.
unaware of his surroundings.
impulsive.
can get very frustrated and angry and hits.
screams very loudly when things don’t go his way.
very active always jumping around.
struggles to sleep at night.
he was actually assessed for school by an educational psychologist who done a PEP3 assessment which is aimed towards children with autism but she wrote in her report he showed very few behaviours associated with autism and that he completed the activity easily and is very bright. However she did say he had the developmental maturity of a 3-4 year old.
any one else had similar and think it could be adhd rather than autism or possibly both? He does have some sensory issues too which cause him extreme anxiety sometimes.
