DLA renewal and back dated payment

Hi,

I’m currently waiting to hear a decision about my son’s DLA renewal. His award ends in July. What I’ve read online is that if the award ends before a decision is made there won’t be any back dated payment. Is this correct?

I’m anxious that this will totally mess up my universal Credit and carers allowance payments too!
