EHCP how many pages

Am having an EHCP for my son sent over to me on draft format soon. How long are they roughly? Obviously they differ but how many pages should I be expecting it to be?

DS's was 16 page's, but I imagine it could vary quite a bit. Make sure they also send you a copy of the reports they used (Ed phyc. / SaLT etc), so you can make sure every recommendation is included in the draft.

This varies so much child to child and area to area as each LA sets them out differently. Don’t worry about how many pages it is, it is the content that is important. Without getting DS1 and DS3’s out I can’t remember how many pages they are, but section K in DS1’s EHCP is a few hundred pages on its own - he has complex needs and there are many, many professionals involved.

The reports should be in section K.

But if an EHCP sets out what they need to do for each child in the classroom then how on earth can it be 16 pages to read that seems awfully long

My son's EHCP was 36 pages and that didn't include all the reports in Section K.

This checklist should give you an idea of what it should look like.

The bit that actually sets out what they need to do (section F) was only about 4 of those pages. There was also a page for his name and details, a description of him (likes, dislikes, interest), outline of his needs (why he needs the section F things, this bit was quite long as they include quotes from the reports), targets of what he should achieve, what school he should go to and details of everyone who had contributed evidence.

The format was also pretty spaced our, they could have probably got it on half the pages if.

The educational provision, section F, is only 1 section of the EHCP. And if every pupil in the class has an EHCP you are talking special schools where the class sizes are significantly smaller.

I've seen an awful lot of them - they go from very condensed and tiny printed ones of around 10-12 pages to huge multi-coloured spectacles with loads of photos and so many letterheads and awards for stapling the most sheets of paper, investors in coffee and the shite that some organisations love putting on anything that run for about 50+ pages before you factor in reports attached.

It's the section on what provision is in place to focus on, make sure it specifies things in terms of who is providing the input (like a qualified SLT) and how many hours - rather than just vague waffle like "speech and language programme delivered by a TA and overseen by a SLT".
