I hope it's ok to post here as I'm not sure what I'm describing is SN but I am concerned about some of my daughter's behaviours.
She is 5 and in Year 1. Our concerns led us to contact her teacher who assured us that she is very calm in the classroom and always does the right thing. She loves school and seems to be getting on ok. Has a close knit group of friends. She has NO concerns.
At home she's a bit of a whirlwind. Loves to spin and does a fair amount of random clapping. I was brushing her teeth recently and for the whole 2 minutes she alternated between clapping and foot stamping, not in any particular rhythm. She often claps at meal times and for the life of me I can't get her to sit on her bottom. She will fall off her chair because she can't sit still. It's almost like she acts like she constantly needs the toilet in terms on wriggling.
We can't really hold her hand when out. She's perfectly safe by roads but she seeks to hold our hands so she can spin and swing on them and it's exhausting.
I believe this is what's referred to as stimming but does this sound like it's within a 'normal' range? She can control it and will stop if asked.
Other things which might be relevant. We've had a lot of issues with constipation and leaking as a result and holding on to the very last second for the toilet. I believe this could also be a sensory thing. She's extremely active and enjoys sport but when I watch her she seems to miss the instructions then look to see what others are doing before repeating.
I think the fact that school don't see any of this will make them think I'm making stuff up if I go back to them with my concerns.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
