My DS who is 8 but developmentally more like a 4/5 year old and struggles to sit still has an EEG on Friday. Does anyone have any tips?

My dd was in ks2 around 9/10 years, when she had hers.
She was OK sitting still, but disliked having the things attached to her head.
The worst bit was asking her to do different things in such quick succession, close eyes, open eyes I can remember??
It was exhausting for me and dd, she found it so hard. Poor auditory memory, she couldn't cope. The look of distress and anxiety on her face , I'll never forget.
Has your son got a favourite toy or something that comforts him, that he can hold onto.
Sure they are probably used to children not sitting still, you could ask if he can sit on your lap??
Dd had her eeg as the school said she looked vacant sometimes, petit mal. Her eeg came back clear.
Hope it goes OK for you tomorrow.

Thank you very much. We watched a video of someone having an EEG and I think my boy will struggle as he has a lot of sensory issues. He appears to be having a lot of absences so hopefully it will capture that and he can start medication.

Was going to wish you luck on the other thread dimples but just seen this so will say it here!

DS has had numerous, they have never asked him to do anything particular like open and close eyes etc. All I would say is whatever it takes… screen? Book? Sweets? Other food? At DSs last one they had a screen, I had a screen plus all of those other things. Something to listen to (I don’t mean headphones but just something he likes.) Even you just chatting to him, telling him a story. All you can do is take the kitchen sink in your bag. Ultimately the longer they can capture the better but whatever they can get is worth something.

Keep us posted!

Thanks Carrie - the bag I have packed is a bit OTT looks like we're going for a long stay not outpatient appointment!
