SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Are services/groups for your children back to "normal" now?

Just wondering what it's like in different areas and how everyone else is finding things.

Trampoline park has been doing their sn sessions 3 times a week throughout the pandemic apart from when they closed completely due to lockdown. I've found I have to be more organised than before though and have to book at least a week in advance for the SN sessions. Soft play have just started doing their SN sessions once a month. Autism group is now meeting in half of their indoor venues (but not the one nearest to us) but they have changed their admission criteria so you have to have a current early help assessment to attend where as before an autism diagnosis alone was enough. Sports group is running in the school holidays (but not this one because a rise in covid cases) but not at the weekend anymore. Hospital is still the same as it was in March 2020.

On a positive note there are some groups for rarer disabilities that we can now go to because they are online instead of having to travel for over an hour to go to a 90 minute group.

I do understand why staff are cautious about starting up groups where there are children like my ds who will lick the floor and then insist on hugging them. Hopefully he and others like him will be able to get a vaccine soon. It's just that when Boris cheerfully announces that restrictions are ending I wonder if it ever will end properly for us.

Also is it worth getting an early help assessment just so we can go to soft play once a month without being judged when your 11 and 7 year olds behave like toddlers? I'm worried it will be like the communication issues course I went on last year where they mostly did sympathetic head tilting but didn't actually help. Although it was nice to spend a bit of time with other parents who understood.
