Autism Assessment - next steps and talking to school

DS1 is 8YO. We have just completed his autism assessment. Still awaiting a date for ADHD assessment.

I don't know the best way to describe him other than concerns only became apparent when he started at school. We have always just been used to and accommodated his behaviour, need for routines and rituals. We can prempt his meltdowns so take steps to avoid them. He is in mainstream school and I am hopeful that with some help and support he will hopefully be able to stay in some kind of mainstream school until 18. He is capable but struggles with time limits and switching off from distractions etc.

Both ourselves and school have been guilty of waiting for his assessment to take place. It's not been helped by Covid and missing so much time in school as a result. So, regardless of the outcomes of his assessments, we're at the stage now where we need to be having conversations with the school. The problem is he is our eldest, I have no experience of SEN/neuro diversity and I don't really know what I should be asking for from school IYSWIM. Can anyone help me with where to start.

What did the assessment involve? It’s typical to be seen by a SALT and Ed psych, sometimes OT, so their reports outline what support your child needs.
