I am told that a teenager can be diagnosed with ASD ADHD PDA after one consultation, is that correct?

Also apparently a psychotherapist can do the assessment? I thought it had to be a psychiatrist?

Thanks

Have a look at the NICE guidelines (but take the recommended lead times with a large pinch of salt - currently 2 years here).

Thank you that is kind but it doesn't say who does the assessment.

It indicates that it would not be done at one session but over a period of time and it refers to a "team" but it is full of "may"s and "might"s so I assume it depends on the situation.

Two years is very different from 3 months!

Extract from clinical guideline [CG128]:

In each area a multidisciplinary group (the autism team) should be set up. The core membership should include a:

paediatrician and/or child and adolescent psychiatrist

speech and language therapist

clinical and/or educational psychologist. [2011]

Thank you so much, maureen

From what I hear, this thoroughness isn't happening across the board, putting it mildly!
