is it possible to do this?

I found this for you on the Motability website:

If there are extenuating circumstances or you have a valid reason for ending the agreement early, please contact the Customer Services Helpline to discuss.
Any successful request to cancel an agreement early is subject to an administration fee, this is decided on a case by case basis.

Or:

What happens if my permitted driver can no longer drive?

Mo says:
If your permitted driver can no longer drive the car for you, it is possible to nominate a different driver instead. This can be done by contacting Royal & SunAlliance Motability.
If you do not have anyone else to drive the car, it may be possible to terminate your agreement, please contact Customer Services for more information.

Can you not keep the car, and use it whilst learning to drive? If you pass fairly quickly it might be easier than getting rid of it, then getting a new one.

When I was looking at a motability car I asked Gowrings what would happen if I broke the 5 year contract. They said £50.
But most companies listen to attenuating circumstances I imagine.
