Hi All
Hope someone can help! My 4yr old has just been digonised with ADHA and i have been given the option of medication or finding something natural myself as im not to keen on drugging him up so young! was hoping someone could reccommend something to me rather than trusting search engine results!!

thanks in advance!

I'm surprised they are offering to medicate so young. My son (now 6) was diagnosed at 4 with the extreme hyperactive type and was v violent, but even so they were reluctant to medicate, though did offer. I turned them down until he was 6.

We tried fish oil, homeopathy etc. Didn't seem to do anything really. Tried special diet - ditto. Then gave in and tried ADHD medication - takes the edge off the hyperactivity but not really much better...but then we realised it's cos he's also autistic!

I hear ADHD meds can work miracles in 'pure' ADHD, and have seen it myself in kids. Others swear by fish oil etc. I would try those routes first as they may work for your boy. Good luck.

If you can afford it, get a nutritionist/medical practitioner who works with children on the spectrum.

If you are using fish oil/cod liver oil, buy the best you can, name brands that are used for children who have autism and adhd, from Kirkman's or go to the nutricentre.co.uk and find some there.

careful of oils cause you dont know what fish they came from and could be laced with all kind of nasty heavy metals, would make things worse.

Calming supplements like 5HtP which you can get a good chemist may help, helped my son a lot. Taurine is also good for calming and is available over the counter, its an amino acid.

read, and research biomedical interventions for autism and adhd. Get Bryan Jepson's book on amazon which talks about how to treat adhd etc.

Our boy, when he was really hyperactive was trying to tell us something, basically that he was having a hard time coping with what we were feeding him. also, he was deficient in a lot of things cause he wasnt getting the proper nutrients from his food.

hyperactivity is due to as much to how behaviour is handled as it is to neurology.

If i put my son in a room full of 30 kids he will go hyper cause he cant filter out things. Would i give him drugs to help him to cope in that environment? No, i would make sure that he is in an environment where he can cope until i can help and teach him coping mechanisms that he can use himself.

doctors so eager to push drugs for the fat cat pharma companies. Its preposterous to put a 4 yr old child on drugs without looking at all the facts and without testing the child first that there isnt some imbalance going on.

Hi Emma, you tried the Feingold diet too? I've seen some amazing results from it.
