Talking to potential schools

Hi, DS 5 is due to start school this year and we will be visiting some potential schools in the coming weeks. He has no SEN diagnosis but it has recently been raised by his nursery as a possibility and we are exploring it.

We have no idea whether/how badly he will struggle in school and I'm not too sure how to raise it at these visits. I'm just wondering if anyone has been in this position and how you dealt with it. I don't want DS to be judged as it were before he even starts anywhere but I also want to know that he will be supported. His main problems are with concentration and emotional regulation but he has also some sensory difficulties.

What country are you in as that will affect the advice posters give you?

Sorry, I'm in Scotland.

Have you been in contact with Enquire and looked at the information they have on their website?

I haven't been in contact with them. I've looked at the website but what I've seen seems more geared towards children with diagnoses/experience of a school setting. I might not have looked carefully enough though.

The advice applies equally to those with SEN but with no specific diagnosis. Support is based on needs, rather than diagnosis.
