Moving whilst waiting for an ASD assessment

My sister's son is currently on the waiting list for an autism assessment.
He is reaching the top of the waiting list and will most likely be seen by July. Unfortunately my sister and her family are moving from London to Manchester and is really stressed as to how this will impact on her son's assessment process. Will she have to start a new referral and join the waiting list ? Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you.

I had the same. I moved in March and my daughter was seen in October. I told the team I was with that we might move before we actually did, but then redirected post and didn’t tell them we had moved until the next appointment which was the actual day of the multi-disciplinary ADOS. It worked out fine for us by not moving to the new list, but we only moved about an hour away so could still get to the ADOS by 9.30 or whenever it started. I suspect it would have taken a lot longer if we’d moved to the new system and we’d already been in the system for 18 months or so then so I didn’t want to risk it. It’s a difficult one, I don’t know what you’re meant to do.

@AnotherBrightSunrise - thanks for sharing. Funny enough I suggested that she has her post redirected but as part of the ASD assessment process in her borough, they need to make home visits to observe my nephew. It's so hard because they've already been waiting for almost 2 years to be seen and now starting from scratch in a new area is just heartbreaking.

That’s difficult then, I guess she won’t be able to get away with not telling them about the move. Hopefully the health board will be able to pass over some notes but I’ve no idea. Different areas seem to do things differently. Where I was used a community paediatrician pathway and where I moved to used CAMHS, so the process seemed very different, but hopefully someone in the new place can give advice. All the best.
