DS has just got new gaiters

Has anyone got any hints or tip for me to get him to wear them long at 10 minutes? He has a pair that the physio loaned us till his custom made one turned up but he wouldn't wear them. Physio wants him to wear them for a least 1/2 hour a day or overnight. I think the overnight option is a good one with DS who is very active and can't sit still for more than a few minutes, but is it going to make more work for us, and will he be more restless at night?
Thanks

When ds2 had his gaiters we tried to make it fun for him.Did things like row row your boat and lots of exercises that involved things he enjoyed like reaching for his favourite toys.Ds2 is also very active and used to try and walk in his .Once he got used to them he would bring them to me as he knew that he would have fun while he was wearing them.

thing is he is nearly 7 now, and doesn't really like row, row your boat anymore I have put them on him for tonight to see how he goes!

How about a star chart? Everytime he wears them for 10 minutes he gets a star. Every time he gets 5 stars he gets a treat. Treat doesn't have to = a sweet or chocolate, could be anything he likes doing.

he likes those Yu-gi-oh cards. Thanks thomcat I might try that

The what cards! LOL, I have all that to come!!!!

hehe, they are cards that you play against each other, I think they are like pokemon cards, but an older version. DS keeps on at me to play but I have no idea how it works

They are pretty much a boy thing, TC, Lottie may well not bother with them ( I'm sure she'll find something else instead!)

mieow, does he have a playstation yet, or any other gaming thing? If so could he play on that for as long as he likes while he is wearing them?

mieow · 17/11/2004 20:42

he has lots of computery things, he has been into computers since he was 18 months old. It quite scary the way he knows it all, he can even email!!!
I will say to him if tonight doesn't go well, that he can spend 1/2 hour on his playstation tomorrow IF he keeps the gaiters on.

As its more or less winter, what about some funky pyjamas or his fave football team that he wears (covering the gaiters so he forgets them?!) and must wear the gaiters to wear the pyjamas?

I'd go down the bribery route mieow

Or maybe slip them on him when he is asleep.

well he went to bed at 8pm with the gaiters on and I haven't heard him yet
