Daughter is nearly 5 has asd is non verbal she has been crying on and off all afternoon have no idea what is wrong ive changed her nappy gave her a drink snack puzzle changed tv channel to about 10 different things she usually likes i have no idea what is wrong and its just so depressing , she goes to special need school has a significant learning disability so doesnt understand much language , cannot express her needs so thats why i have to guess constantly and she has been home for 4 and half weeks due to being ill before Christmas and then school closing week before they had planned and im just feeling so disheartened and sad that she isnt able to communicate her needs 😣

Might she be feeling poorly? Our dd is verbal so not the same situation, but she struggles to identify how she feels and communicate it to us. The only way we know she's ill usually is when her behaviour deteriorates significantly.

Sounds so tough that you're trying to guess why she's distressed.

Teething? (As in, starting to lose a wobbly tooth, which some ASC children are really bothered by)

Sensory discomfort? Have you used any new laundry liquid etc, could her clothes be itching her?

Constipation?

Worms? (I know this sounds gross but I always suggest checking this as my DS was unbelievably upset and emotional when he had worms due to the discomfort of it)

And (I mean this as matter of factly, not alarmist,) but do you think she could have Coronavirus? Is it worth seeing if she could tolerate a test?

@Whatafustercluck hi , i was just wondering whether this still happens with your dd ? Mine is 5 with asd , I've noticed her behaviour completely deteriorates when she is poorly. Did it improve with age ?
