6 year old waking constantly through the night

Hi everyone,
Our 6 year old son until about 3 months ago slept amazingly; fell asleep straight away and would sleep 12 hours plus. The last few months he has still fallen asleep quickly but has been waking upwards of 5 times a night sometimes. He screams continuously until we go in (this isn't a distressed scream, he isn't crying, just a really high pitched scream that he repeats over and over) if we don't go into his room he can continue for over an hour but most often starts again as soon as we leave his room. He has a chromosome deletion and duplication, speech delay and suspect ADHD and ASD although not diagnosed yet. Does anyone have any advice or experience of this? Would melatonin work? Really struggling with the lack of sleep at the moment as have health problems myself, I work and am trying to do a degree as well.

Things iv tried is no food after 6pm as feeding him at night makes his tummy go through the night waking him up.
Also i use white noise to help put him to sleep which also blocks out sounds that could wake him up. Hope you find out whats causing the wake ups x

Melatonin (unless slow release), only helps to get them to sleep, not keep them asleep, it won’t hurt to trial it so maybe ask your sons paediatrician. Be specific about your son falling asleep easily and the problem being the multiple night wakings as they may give you prolonged release / different sleep medication.

I would be trying to get to the root though, with you saying it only being in the last 3 months and him being amazing prior to this. Go back to 3 months ago and start from there.
