DS just finished his 3rd week of junior infants.
Teacher spoke to us last week after school saying that DH has speech delays. He doesn’t speak very clearly and is very hard to understand. He’s just turned 5 and we speak 2 languages at home. I just assumed he was a bit behind because of trying to learn 2 languages.
Today she wanted to talk to me again. This time about his violent behaviour. She says he ‘plays rough’ and pushes and hits other children.
I’m starting to feel very anxious. I don’t know where to go from here. I booked him for an assessment with a speech path but it’s a 2-3 months waiting list.
I’ve asked him why he hits others and he says ‘I don’t know’. I remind him it’s naughty behaviour and he just says ‘I know’.
Does this sound like something that younger kids sometimes go through and grow out of or could there be an underlying condition we’re not aware of? Where to turn for help?
