Secondary school admissions deadline

Hi all
My son is in year 6. His current EHCP has not been updated even though the year 5 annual review meeting was held in May 2021. We are approaching the normal admissions secondary school deadline of 31st October. Am I right in thinking that we do not need to apply via normal admissions but just wait until the EHCP is completed with named school by Feb 2022?
Sorry I feel so flummoxed by all the contradictory letters sent by my borough.

You don't need to apply via the normal admission round. The phase transfer review should normally be held in the autumn term of Y6, or at least the end of the summer term of Y5, May is a bit early. Then the EHCP should be finalised by 15th February.

Some LAs ask parents to complete a separate preference form, however parents can not be forced to complete this.
